Break the chain 

What is the chain? The chain has linked us from one generation to the next? It’s what keeps us connected, it’s family, it’s love, it’s power, control, and it’s all we know. 

Break the chain 

Who is it? It is family, it is ill-treatment, it’s pain, it’s restrictive and it hurts.

Break the chain

 For who? For the next generation, it’s not their pain to  carry, let them be free. Let them soar, let them live and breathe.

But how? It has been passed down from generation to generation? I don’t know how. I only know how to hold the chain.

 But why? It is all we know is our words, it’s our actions and our beliefs.

When, when is it time? This is all we know. It came before us. Surely it has to come after us? 

Break the chain

 How?, how can I? How can I be the only one who has become aware of the weight it   carries, the secret it holds, the pain it covers up, break the chain? 

Break the chain 

I broke the chain. I’m no longer weighted down. I am free. I am living. I had scars from the heavy chain. In the end, the scar will fade.

I had the bolt cutters. I have held the pain. I chose to drop the broken chain and walk into the sunset with the next generation holding my hand because I broke the chain.
